Rosita

The Rosita: Tequila's Negroni Variation

The Rosita cocktail's exact origins remain somewhat unclear, though the drink appeared in cocktail literature by the 1970s.

The name "Rosita" is a diminutive form of Rosa (rose) in Spanish, likely referencing the drink's pinkish-red color from the Campari, according to Difford's Guide. The cocktail combines reposado tequila with both sweet and dry vermouth plus Campari and Angostura bitters. This formula creates a spirit-forward, bittersweet drink similar to a Negroni but with tequila's agave character replacing gin's botanicals, as noted in Liquor.com.

The Rosita experienced renewed interest during the craft cocktail revival when bartenders explored classic tequila cocktails beyond the Margarita. The drink showcases aged tequila in a sophisticated, aperitif-style format that appeals to Negroni enthusiasts.
