CAMERON’S KICK
Cameron's Kick: A Celtic Whiskey Collaboration
Cameron's Kick first appeared in Harry MacElhone's Harry's ABC of Mixing Cocktails in 1922. MacElhone was a Scottish bartender who worked at Harry's New York Bar in Paris, where he created numerous classic cocktails during the 1920s, according to Difford's Guide.
The cocktail uniquely combines both Scotch and Irish whiskey in equal parts with orgeat (almond syrup) and fresh lemon juice. This pairing of the two Celtic whiskies creates complexity while orgeat adds nutty sweetness and silky texture, as noted in Punch.
The drink represents the creative experimentation of 1920s bartending culture in Paris, where American and European bartenders mixed during Prohibition. Cameron's Kick fell into obscurity after the 1930s but was rediscovered during the craft cocktail revival when bartenders explored forgotten recipes from classic bartending manuals.
