Fatburger’s New Rewards Program Makes Value a Return-Visit Question

Fatburger has introduced its first loyalty program, adding another decision to the familiar burger-order calculation: whether a future discount is worth joining an app today. The company announced Fatburger Rewards on October 8, and Restaurant Dive covered the launch on October 9.

According to Fatburger’s announcement, eligible spending earns one point per dollar, with 75 points redeemable for a $5 discount. New members receive $5 off a purchase of at least $20, valid for 30 days at participating restaurants. Availability can vary by location, so the offer is not a promise that every Fatburger order will qualify.

The arithmetic is useful, but it should stay in context. A $5 reward against $75 of qualifying spending represents about 6.7 percent in future discount value before considering restrictions. It is not an immediate reduction on every receipt, and the introductory offer has a separate spending threshold and time limit.

Where the value actually comes from

For a regular guest, the practical benefit depends on whether the program rewards purchases they would already make. Adding food simply to clear a threshold changes the calculation. A customer comparing lunch options should still look at the complete order price, participation rules and the effort required to redeem a reward.

For operators, our reading is that a simple earning rule is only the beginning. Staff need to explain it clearly, checkout needs to recognize it reliably, and the redemption experience needs to feel consistent across channels. A confusing discount can make a routine visit feel like a negotiation.

Fatburger also says the program will include app offers and other promotions. Those are plans for an ongoing relationship, not evidence yet that the launch has increased visits or sales. The more meaningful test will be whether guests return without needing ever-larger incentives.

That distinction matters beyond burgers. Restaurant loyalty is most useful when it makes a good existing habit easier to maintain, rather than asking a guest to spend more to feel they saved. Follow our industry coverage for more on restaurant pricing and guest experience.
