Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins

Pumpkin muffins with crumb topping and a visible cream cheese center on a blue-gray plate

Recipe by Sally McKenney, Sally’s Baking

A baking project can set the pace of an autumn morning. These pumpkin muffins from Sally McKenney at Sally’s Baking make a good case for putting the coffee on and leaving a little extra time at the table. Pumpkin and warm spices anchor the batter; cream cheese filling and a brown-sugar crumb topping give each muffin more contrast than a simple quick bread.

Our serving pick is a small breakfast spread with sliced pears and plain yogurt alongside the muffins. Let the baking carry the sweetness, and keep the other dishes straightforward. A strong black coffee would be our choice here; an unsweetened tea also fits a breakfast that already has plenty of spice.

McKenney’s original page includes the complete formula, assembly photographs and baking guidance. Read it before shopping so you have ingredients for the filling and topping as well as the batter.
