New York Moves Toward Outdoor Dining in Every Season
New York’s outdoor dining conversation is moving beyond the summer calendar. On August 31, 2026, Mayor Zohran Mamdani signed legislation establishing year round roadway dining, according to the Mayor’s Office.
The change removes the previous seasonal requirement to take down roadway setups from November 30 through March 31. Sidewalk cafes were not subject to that same restriction. The city said the Department of Transportation would develop rules allowing temporary winterization in the coming months.
